SLO® Mini Conference 2018
The annual SLO® mini conference for students in grades 10-12 took place on October 11 and 13. It was run by the
school’s SLO® prefects and only supervised by teachers. On Thursday, October 11, students gathered after school in the
auditorium. Our school Director, Mr. Samir Zakkak welcomed students and discussed with them the theme of the year, the
year of “Staying Ahead”. The first assignment was a brilliant team-building activity where each team was given a bag of
balloons to construct a chair. It was followed by a dinner delightfully prepared by the cafeteria staff members.
During the second day of the SLO® camp, participants started their day with a presentation about achieving goals
presented by Aysha Bukamal and Ahmed Ahmed. Afterwards, Aysha Husain and Hessa Mattar delivered a presentation
as an introduction to the community service activity which was at Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of Disabled.
Once at the venue, participants were greeted and given clear instructions of what will be done. From there, students were
split randomly into different groups; gardening, painting, fixing the storage room, and maintenance. Students worked
hard and learned a lot from that visit which they considered to be a true life-changing moment. After all activities were
done, students said their goodbyes and headed to Avenues Mall for lunch then returned back to school for another session
of team-building activities. At around 5:30 p.m., the conference ended and the students, after a truly unforgettable mini
conference, headed home.
